In April 2016, Marvel studio decided it needed another addition to it’s long streak of already successful tv shows tied in with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The studio announced that two of their lesser known characters; Cloak and Dagger would be getting their own show. Finally, it looks like we didn’t have to wait too long for the first trailer of Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger.
A few days ago, the studio released the first trailer and official synopsis of the new show “Cloak and Dagger” to be aired on Freeform in 2018. Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger trailer seems to boast of having a different tone from previous installments by Marvel. The combination of dark gritty tones and highlights of teenage spirit makes the trailer stand out dramatically speaking.
Marvel has constantly proven themselves to turn their lesser known properties into high demand characters with shows like Agents of Shield, Jessica Jones, Agent Carter and Luke Cage. So it should be safe to say that fans would base their faith and expectations of the new series on the past glories of the shows before it.
These characters however new to the film industry are relatively popular amongst a few die hard comic book fans, mostly for their prominent roles in the Civil War story arc of the comic books. Whether or not this new installation will be a success is yet to be seen or known.
However, If we were to judge solely from the historical pattern of Marvel studios, it would be safe to say that they are off to their usual great start.
Below, is the official synopsis and trailer as released by Marvel studios.
“Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger” is an adaptation of the beloved Marvel characters whose story is aimed squarely at young adults. This live-action interracial romance follows Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson, two teenagers from very different backgrounds, who find themselves burdened and awakened to newly acquired superpowers while falling in love.
