It’s just a few hours to the 91st Academy Award Ceremony “Oscars” which is slated to commence at 2am WAT and I am ready to break bottle on anybody’s head. This is the most prestigious film award ceremony held in honor of deserving films, film makers, actors and film crews for their outstanding achievements in one calendar year. Here is my high-level summary of what to expect from the 2019 Oscars;
For the upcoming award ceremony, there are already nominations that have broken standing records. Most noticeably is the nomination of the Marvel superhero flick; Black Panther, for the Best Motion Picture category (Wakanda Forever!!!!!!!!). Black Panther is one of the record-shattering cinematic works of art known for breaking lots of records in 2018. The film is the first ever superhero movie to be nominated for Best Picture in 91 years of the entire Oscars award history.
Other commendable nominations come from; Roma with 10 nominations and The Favourite for various categories in this year’s award show. Both Roma and The Favourite have also been nominated alongside Black Panther, A Star is Born, among others in the Best Picture category.
One of the biggest attractions of this year’s Oscars ceremony is the nomination of the famous pop star; Lady Gaga for her role in the film; A Star Is Born. The movie which she co-starred in alongside Bradley Cooper comes as no surprise as it won the hearts of so many critics and fans alike upon its release (love always wins *sigh*). The pop star has been nominated for the category of Best Actress for her role in A Star is born. Although this is just a high-level summary of what to expect from the 2019 Oscars, I believe Gaga might actually win this one.
For the Best Actor nominees, we have Christian Bale in Vice, Bradley Cooper in A Star Is Born, Rami Malek in Bohemian Rhapsody and two others all in the race for the award. Also, for Best Supporting Actor we have; Mahershala Ali in Green Book, Sam Elliot in A Star Is Born and other amazing actors as well.
Other categories with stiff competition are for Best Director, Best Animated Feature, Best Animated Shortfilm, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Screenplay, Best Cinematography and a couple of others.
One thing you can be sure of is that I will keep you updated on all the news and buzz around this year’s Oscar award ceremony. I just pray that the outcome makes sense this year, or else they will hear from me this night (there is kuku Uber).
