For lovers of the Caped Crusader, we’ve got gist for you. Ben Affleck has announced that he will not be directing the upcoming standalone Batman movie, “The Batman”. This is because he believes that playing both the lead role and also directing the movie has a chance of affecting his performance at either or both. Affleck would however remain in the lead role for the movie. That’s right folks, Ben Affleck is no longer directing The Batman. In a statement to Variety, Affleck mentioned that;
“There are certain characters who hold a special place in the hearts of millions, performing this role demands focus, passion, and the very best performance I can give. It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require”.
According to a few sources, Warner Bros. is in full support of Affleck’s decision and it was not based on the recent box-office failure of his latest directing/starring effort, “Live by Night” (also released by Warner Bros.).
On the other hand, writer-director of new cinema release “War for the Planet of the Apes” Matt Reeves would now be directing the movie. The award winning American screenwriter, director and producer is really excited to be a part of the project even though it is yet to have a release date.
But that is not all!
Reeves who also directed Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and Rise of the Planet of the Apes has said that he scrapped the earlier script that Affleck, Chris Terrio and DC’s Geoff Johns had worked on. He has his own ideas on how he wants to tell the story and had insisted that they either go his way or find another director.
This does however leave the question as to whether or not Matt Reeves would still be adopting Joe Manganiello’s Deathstroke as the main villain of the story as previously established by Ben Affleck. Whatever the case maybe, fans across the world are anticipating a blockbuster that will blow their minds away and this includes me!! I’m looking at you Warner Bros! So what do you think now that Ben Affleck is no longer directing The Batman, good news or bad news? I’d leave you to decide.
